This is a beautifully detailed botanical illustration from the 1831 book, 'Medical Botany', jointly illustrated by Dr. John Stephenson and James Morss Churcill. The subject of these vintage illustrations are plants and herbs with a medicinal value and there are over 150 hand-painted panels that form the book. This book and the illustrations therein brought new knowledge to the western world about the identification and classification of these medicinal plants.The book contains accurate, realistic, hand-made sketches of plants and herbs and it is considered a major milestone in organizing and consolidating the knowledge of medicinal plants.
